Vanilla planifolia – Flat Leaved Vanilla
SPECIAL OFFER – Vanilla planifolia £10.99 + P&P
Vanilla planifolia has been used for centuries as a food flavouring. Found in many tropical regions, Vanilla planifolia is an evergreen vine that can grow enormous.
Vanilla Flowers
After a few years flowers will develop. The flowers open on one day only, and if they are not pollinated, they will be shed. Due to the shape of the flowers, spexcialist pollinaters are required, or in the home you can do this by hand with a careful touch and a paintbrush.
Once pollinated, the vanilla pod takes up to 9 months to mature, with many seeds being produced in the long pods. These are used to flavour food with the heady flavouring we all know so well.
Vanilla Care
Care of Vanilla planifolia is similar to many other tropical plants, although as it can grow extremely large, you will need to have sufficient space!
Humidity and warmth will be beneficial, and support will be necessary – Vanilla planifolia will attach it’s adventitious roots to even the smoothest surfaces.
Vanilla planifolia is a superb plant that adds a tropical touch to your home.
