Images of My Day
It’s been great to properly get out into the garden for the first time this year. The greenhouse has been busy for a while now, but I’ve finally started getting my hands dirty and have been tidying up a few key bits of my garden.
Epiphyllum Ackermannii
The showpiece of my greenhouse at the moment is my wonderful Epiphyllum Ackermannii. It seems to produce flowers pretty much all year round, and it has started well this year. I’ve put it in a pot that is double the size of the previous one, and as you can see, it is covered with buds. Hopefully it will go from strength to strength again this year. I’ll need a bigger greenhouse soon!
Taming of Bamboo
As you will probably already know, Bamboo can be a beast when it gets going. I’ve got a nice patch of the stuff in my tortoise enclosure and it is happy to bully its way into places it is not welcome. When I’m clearing it out I always take the opportunity to pot up a few clumps for my office plant sale and also to stock up on my canes, which is great. Garden plants don’t have to be edible to be useful!
Tortoise Time
Two of my tortoises are telling me it is getting a little more pleasant outside. Barbara seems pretty relaxed about Terry practicing his moves on her. Hopefully the newly cleared patch in their enclosure will provide some more room and help them enjoy the sun, when it comes for good!
Little Gem
Little Gem is a great lettuce. It it very easy to grow from seed and is a tasty addition to salads and lunchboxes. I have chicken, and usually let them ravage the plants I thin out. It makes sure nothing goes to waste and keeps them occupied for a few seconds! Little Gem lettuce seeds are widely available from most garden centres and seed companies, like Thompson & Morgan
